Why Yoga can change your life ? 🧘🏻‍♂️ ✨

We all would probably know that The quality of our lives is simply determined by HOW WE EXPERIENCE LIFE and nothing else.

Since all human experience comes from within , it is extremely important to look at life as to what determines our joy , happiness and well being.

Why is it that — Someone could be living on the streets while being absolutely joyful and another could be living in a golden house but feel so suffocated that feeling “STRESSED” can start feeling normal ?

All the technologies , businesses , education , wealth , positions and power in the world have brought us enormous amount of convenience and comfort , but you can’t deny the fact that despite having all these , so many people are not free from suffering.

Today , let’s try to look at the inner aspects of our lives and try to see what’s all this Yoga fuss about.

  • Yoga is not at all a simple thing.
  • It is a very very very big deal. (more “very” than many people are comfortable with 🙃)

If you feel , its worth reading ahead , CHEERS !!! 🍾✨

Now , the time is ripe to move Inward and Forward. 🙏🏻

Inward 🧘🏻‍♂️ and Forward 🚀

Before we get ahead of ourselves and think how doing difficult , funny , flexible postures can help us experience life better , it’s important to first clear out some of the misconceptions that people may have towards yoga.

Some of the MISCONCEPTIONS about yoga are :

  • Yoga is an alternative to “workout”.
  • Yoga can be learnt through book.
  • Yoga is traditional , philosophical and boring.
  • Yoga is a set of complex postures that flex our body and a bunch of breathing techniques for relaxation.
  • Yoga is all about doing meditation and relaxing mind.
  • Its benefits are limited to physical and mental aspects of our life.

Now that misconceptions are cleared, let’s see what yoga actually means.

and Now…. YOGA ✨

Patanjali’s Yoga sutras , one of the most profound documents on the yogic sciences , begins with a strange line : “… And now , Yoga”.

A great document on life starts with just half a sentence !!! Why ?

Here’s the eye opening explanation taken from the New York times bestseller ( Inner Engineering by Sadhguru) :

  • “And now , yoga” because you arrive at yoga only when you realize that your desire is essentially for the limitless, and that absolutely nothing else will settle you.
  • Every human being lives in a perpetual state of insufficiency. No matter who you are or what you have achieved, you still want a little more than what you have right now. This is “human desire”.
  • But the fundamental desire within every human being is for boundless expansion. The desire is not just for “more” but for “everything” !
  • Most people are not aware of the nature of their longing. When their longing finds unconscious expression, we call this greed, conquest, ambition. When their longing finds conscious expression, we call this yoga.

If you still believe that everything will be okay the moment you find a new girlfriend or boyfriend, get a raise, buy a new house or car, then it is not yet time for yoga.

Once you’ve tried all those things and more, and clearly know that none of it will ever be enough — then

you are ready.

So now, yoga.

What exactly is yoga ?

If you were to close your eyes and conjure an image, it would probably be one of bodies twisted into impossible postures. Bone-bending, muscle-knotting, teeth-gnashing contortionism — that, for many, is yoga!

The trend is changing nowadays to some extent, and many yoga studios also impart breathing techniques and meditation processes. So, for some people, the image of yoga might be one of serenely smiling faces and perfect bodies seated effortlessly in lotus position.

But none of that is what we mean when we talk of the science of yoga.

Yoga is not a practice. It is not an exercise. It is not a technique. The images in popular studios and media around the world , point to an improper form of yoga that has now pervaded the world.

This is a travesty of a science of extraordinary grandeur and profundity that originated in India.

The science of yoga is, quite simply, the science of being in perfect alignment, in absolute harmony, in complete sync with existence.

The many fluctuations of the outside world have their impact on each one of us. But yoga is the science of creating inner situations exactly the way you want them. When you fine-tune yourself to such a point where everything functions beautifully within you, naturally the best of your abilities will flow out of you.

This is the essence of what yoga is about. It’s not the whole picture but it’s a fitting description.

Why should I invest my time in Yoga ?

Let’s say you are already happy , contented , and peaceful in your life. Then what is the point in investing your time in yoga ?

If this is the question that came to your mind , then you are absolutely right to think that way. This was my exact question when people told me to do yoga and meditation before.

Here’s what changed my mind and perception :

  • From being a science geek to being a yoga freak , it took quite a lot of research and hits on the head many times for me to understand certain mind blowing aspects of life.
  • Going through a lot of scientific experiments, analogies, peoples experiences, scientific researches, rare cases, many case studies and statistics by various universities, work from ancient scholars, old scriptures etc completely left me in a state of shock and wonder at the same time.
  • But what good is all the knowledge no matter how profound it is , if it doesn’t enhance the experience of our life ? How do you explain the experience of sound and music to a deaf ?

The moment you start to explain an experience, the logical aspects or the intellectual aspects of it seem to miss a lot of other juicy aspects of the real experience.

The kick is only in EXPERIENCING the real thing. Never in EXPLAINING it !!!

As the saying goes , “A mind , that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”

Yoga and all its aspects are rooted towards experiencing life in all its depth and dimensions. There are still many aspects to it, which can be called “Super Natural”.

All those are human possibilities at their best. This is why ,

Yoga is not about being superhuman; it is about realizing that being human is super !

If you want, you can use this yoga just to get rid of your backache or you can use this yoga to get better mental focus and a little peace of mind and happiness in your life, or you can use this yoga as a way of “climbing up to the highest possibility within yourself”.

For anyone who’s WILLING to explore , there’s always a WAY 💫

So, What Next ?

From logical to illogical , Sense to NonSense , Known to the Unknown.

A Journey to the Beyond :
Let’s take a deep breath and relax for a while because later, it will be a crazy ride when we start looking at the mystical aspects of Yoga and yogic science in a much deeper way and relating it with observations and results from scientific researches and experiments from well known universities of the world.

In essence, in upcoming articles we shall be diving into the illogical , nonsensical , or super natural aspects of the reality that we are in , to an extent that it will leave us in a state of shock , wonder and gratitude towards life.
This deserves an entire series of articles on its own.🙃
